Angela Evelyn Bassett, an American actress, is known for her work in film and on television since the mid 1980s. Bassett has been awarded a variety of accolades such as the Golden Globe Award and sixteen NAACP Image Awards. In the TV and film business, she is famous for her awards and nominations. Bassett was born to her aunt in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Born and grew up in New York New York. Her mother split with her father when she was approximately five. She and her younger sister then moved into St. Petersburg Florida with their mother. Bassett was inspired to become an actress after seeing the play Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. She was a student at Yale University New Haven Connecticut earning a bachelor's diploma (1980) with a major in African American studies and a master's degree (1983) from the Yale School of Drama. She was introduced to Courtney B. Vance, another actress from Yale and they married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. graduated from the Yale School of Drama School with a master's on African American studies, in the year 1980.
